Taizé Prayer – First Sunday every month at 5 p.m.
This is meditative service that has roots in religious community of Taizé, France. Silence and singing are the primary vehicles of prayer and participation. A few words are chanted over and over. Gradually, like the Spirit of the Divine the sounds and silences move beyond the intellect and penetrate the heart and whole being.
The Taizé service at Saint Paul's is unique in that we use a wide variety of music for chanting: along with the music from the Taizé Community, we sing folk music, spirituals, selections from the hymnal, and chants composed by some of our members. Here's a chant written by Mary Reynolds, with a text from the Gospel of John, entitled, "My Peace I Leave You."
